Certification Process for Coaches

Why get certified, almost instances now in club or AYSO or anywhere , the leagues are all moving to certification for age appropriate coaching, expectations, liability are the driving forces. At all tournaments including AYSO all-stars/playoffs; certifications will be required. What does it take to have the right certification?

For the AYSO training:
Step 1: You need your ID number, get from your region or from www.eayso.org

Step 2: Complete your Safe haven online at www.eayso.org

Step 3: Determine what age group you are coaching, the licenses are as follows, U6, U8, U10, U12, Intermiediate, Advance, National Head Coach

U6 through U12 are online modules that you can take online at www.eayso.org the U6/U8 takes 1-2 hrs each, U10/U12 3-5 hrs,

To go farther though must have completed U12, then you can take the Intermediate course which is 2-3 day session generally 1 evening and 1 weekend typically hosted by Area (you can take this class in any AYSO region), Kevin Ryan (he is the Area V coach administrator) is the person of contact and Santee typically has the website for information on classes (Santee website, Kevin’s email; asyor21fan@sbcglobal.net)…again you can take the intermediate/advanced class through in any Area not just your home one (just make sure it is AYSO approved and they upload your completion into the magic computer system)

The advance class is similar in time to intermediate, 2-3 days in time over a weekend…please note to take Intermediate you must have U-12 and to take Advance you must have the Intermediate,U12—->Intermediate—>Advanced…..no way around it, only limits here is the classes are only offered very time 1-2 times at most per Area and at different  times of the year

There is alternate way of getting certifications and that is through Cal South which generally oversees the various club leagues with the beginning being an ‘E’ license (pass/fail course which only way to fail is not go); the 2nd being a ‘D’ license which is another weekend class, but a bit harder in the end you may end up with a state or a national license depending on how well you did .

Typically AYSO covers the coaches cost of training and for USSF is roughly $100 for the E lic/$2oo for the ‘D’ lic…These classes are helpful and will help you learn the art of coaching; but these classes and website are only a base, every coach takes what they want and leave the rest
